Dear Paul,
There is no reason at all why after probably thousands of students you would remember me, but I wanted to write to say thank you. My name is Heidi Haghighi, and I took lessons from Monica Mullenbach and you for a few years, probably in the late 1980s and early 1990s–I don’t recall the exact years.
In any case, you have no idea the degree to which learning to play piano really, in some ways, saved my life. I am currently living in Vermont, have 4 kids (1 daughter who recently started lessons), am a nurse, and am in a doctoral program for nursing. I am also writing a book related, in part, to my academic work. You, and learning to play the piano, were, for me, strong protective factors. I still play very regularly, and music is a big part of our daily lives.
In any case, I hope this finds you well. You have done so much good for so many people, I cannot even imagine the butterfly effect of all that you have given.
Thank you so much,
Heidi
